Year 2008

September 27, 2008| A habit to have a rest
Alena YASKO, "Narodnaya Gazeta" (The People’s Newspaper) Newspaper, No 182 Belarus has a huge potential in the sphere of tourism development, however, how effectively is it used? This year as never before the Belarusians complained much that it is impossible to buy a summer ticket to a native sanatorium, that it is necessary to visit a regional centre to fill a tourist service agreement because of a lack of tourist agencies in the native city and that the price is not in line with the quality of services. The Belarusian Ministry of Sport and Tourism together with the Polish colleagues and the World Tourism Organization is also preparing a big program on attraction of Belarusian and foreign tourists to Belovezhskaya Pushcha under the motto "Visit the oldest protected forest in Europe!". Website "Wildherds.ru" American and European bison, buffalos and yaks belong to the largest herd animals. Although their size and herd living defended them from the overwhelming majority of predators, these giants have suffered much from the human whose aspiration to use one of them and to supersede the others from the habitual pastures has brought all of them to the edge of extinction. Few wild animals like American bison have got so tragic consequences because of collision of human interests. The last wild European bison was killed during the First World War. However, about two thousand bison live now in Europe - free herds in Belovezhskaya Pushcha and in the Western Caucasus and more than 1.500 in zoos. The number of buffalos was considerably reduced. Yaks which number is about 8.000 are under a serious threat from wolves and nomadic hunters. Tatiana Trafimovich, Website "The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection of the Republic of Belarus" Especially protected natural areas of Belarus are of a greatest interest for development of ecological tourism. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is the "oldest" of especially protected natural areas in Belarus. To protect it very well. A protected system. An unforgettable show. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is preparing to celebrate an anniversary. Read more in Russian or by using the web translator http://bp21.org.by/ru/art/a080901.html August 28, 2008| Whom does Lukashenko fear?
Website "Belarusian Partisan" The Alexander Lukashenko's visit in Beijing has given a lot of inconveniences for ordinary members of the official Belarusian Olympic delegation. The "Belarusian Partisan" was told that all Belarusians have suddenly lost mobile connection after Alexander Lukashenko has appeared in the Olympic village… This is not the first case when the Belarusian leader tries to avoid contacts to ordinary people. It is known that, during the meeting between Lukashenko and the Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev in the city of Brest, they visited Belovezhskaya Pushcha. On the eve of this event, representatives of the president's security service have not been too lazy to visit almost every court yard in the village and to warn the people – do not leave the yard area and do not lean out of the windows, if the case of disobedience there will be aimed fire to kill. Alexandra Antselevich, Yulia Popova, "Narodnaya Gazeta" (The People’s Newspaper) Newspaper, No 160 Historians and experts assert that the national culture of each country develops from the image of native small lands. The Kamenetz Tower or the White Tower, one of the ancient symbols of White Russia, is raised on a high hill above the once deep river of Lesnaya (Forest River). This common name, by the way, has resulted from a mistake, a literary mistake. In 1893, a book by Russian scientist Georgiy Kartsev "Hunting in Belovezhskaya Pushcha" with the records "the White Tower is situated at the river of Belaya (White River)" was issued. However, the river in the town of Kamenetz is called Lesnaya (Forest) for all time, not Belaya (White). And the tower consists of red bricks and never was bleached. Alexandra Antselevich, "Narodnaya Gazeta" (The People’s Newspaper) Newspaper, No 157 Nikolai Tarasyuk, the sole inhabitant of the village of Stoily, whom the "NG" reporter visited, cannot leave it. The Pruzhany district located at the northeast of the Brest area is a Belarusian jungle. Woods under the sky make 41 percents of its territory and Belovezhskaya Pushcha begins there. There are meandering, slow and sedate rivers. There are farm and villages in which many houses look at the world by boarded up windows. Nikolai Tarasyuk has lived for 77 years in the native village. And during 15 years, the only his windows shine in the village in the evenings. Svetlana Yaskevich, Website "21.BY" Fascists have driven together the people from the village of Rozhkovka to a big pit to make execution … And an image of the God's Mother has appeared in the sky. The story of miraculous deliverance of the village of Rozhkovka in the area of Belovezhskaya Pushcha which was at that very instant before to get the destiny of other burned villages of our land is similar to a legend. However, there are a lot of facts against considering it only the legend. Besides, the facts have a real material embodiment. This is first of all the Saint-Kazan rural temple and an unusual icon there. Nikolai Yakimenko, Website "The Ukraine Voice" Why is the 600th anniversary? Figure "is adhered" to historical documents. Construction of an enclosure of the area of 45 hectares for keeping bison is near complete in the Muravishchanskiy forest enterprise. This measure makes starting a unique action on rescue of the Volynsk population of the listed in a Red Date Book animal in this area. Bison was returned to the Volyn land in May and June of 1965. As to the first officially documented records about them, they are dated back to 1429. And nowadays 13 bison of 15 delivered from Belovezhskaya Pushcha (the Republic of Belarus) have got acclimatized. They are slightly opened by Belarusian archeologists' researches
Elena Tribuleva, "Vecherniy Brest" (The Evening Brest) newspaper Why is the 600th anniversary? Figure "is adhered" to historical documents. The modern Belovezhskaya Pushcha which has avoided intensive economic activities has been looked like a titbit for archaeologists for a long time - thousand-year historical strata on its territory had all chances to be conserved up to now. However, strict protection was a barrier for archaeological researches too. The situation has changed after the most titled reserve of the country began a very active preparation for celebration of its 600th anniversary. At that time a decision was also accepted to give access for scientists to the most protected area of the primeval forest and even to allow them to carry out archeological excavations there, but under conditions if the researches will serve not only purely scientific goals but also will further popularize the Reserve. And already today it is possible to say that the archaeologists will cope with this task. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is preparing to celebrate the 600th anniversary since the protected status
Valentina Kozlovich, "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" (The Russian Newspaper) Why is the 600th anniversary? Figure "is adhered" to historical documents. The first mention about the Pushcha is dated 983. However, the people began to call it "Belovezhskaya" since 1409 - in Polish and Lithuanian official document. This is the year when the protected status was exactly established. Belarusian and Polish scientists came to this conclusion after they have learned records in the sources of 1409. What new is going on here now? From a steam locomotive to a dirigible balloon. A note for tourists - if you were lost in the forest. Natalia, Website "Let's go! Tourists' responses about resorts and hotels" I red about what the Russians write describing Belarus. It's funny some time but it's always interestingly and I has decided to contribute my mite. 10 years ago I have come from Russia to the metropolitan city of Minsk and it seems to me I can prompt something to my compatriots who deliberate to visit the contiguous state for two or three days or not. Belarus is deprived of glaring glamour. Minsk. Museums. The city of Grodno is the whole of being dug over. Belovezhskaya Pushcha has met us with blaze of the sun and enclosures with wild animals stretched for nearly one and half kilometer. It was not pleasant to me. However, I give a maximum point to the Kamenetz Tower. The city of Brest. The towns of Synkovichi and Silichi. That's all, good trip to you and be in a good! Yanka Volynchuk, "Vecherniy Brest" (The Evening Brest) newspaper The polemics around the monument to the 1000th anniversary of the city of Brest is getting up. Our newspaper when publishing offers of the concept of the monument has drowned the critical fire to itself. There are a lot of discussions and the idea connected with names of the figures who possibly being in the monument should reflect the history of the city from its early existence up to the end of the XVIII century is not acceptable first of all. Being under a leadership of the Lithuanian Kings Witowt (he is also an applicant to be perpetuating) and Yagello in 1409, there was stored up meat in Belovezhskaya Pushcha enough to supple the overall victorious Greenwald army. Galina Efremova, "Narodnaya Volya" (The People's Will) newspaper The Rossonsky district of the Vitebsk region is "the North Palmira" of Belarus because there are many unique places, forests, reserves, different game and rare plants. Many lovers of beautiful nature both foreigners and Belarusians have heard a lot about the tourist route called "The Rosson Blue Necklace" and consisted of pearl-lakes. Belarus might relatively be dividing to three zones: the south of the Pripyat River, the Berezenski Biosphere Reserve and the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha". Alexei Chichkin, Evgeniy Arsyukhin, "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" (The Russian Newspaper) The tendency is obvious: the number of so-called Euro-regions which are created under initiative of the European Union in the frontier territories of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Baltic countries is growing at a prompt pace. The most of the Euro-regions are created in Belarus. It turns out that the closer to Russia means the better... And what is the name of the next region? It's "Belovezhskaya Pushcha". Elena Tribuleva , Website "Brest trans-bounday info-center" Last week the tourist complex "Rynkovka", that's near the village of Tyuhinovichi of the Brest region, has become a place of meeting of few tens of the people who somehow or other are connected with development of the "green" tourism on the Brest land. Issues of creation and development of "green" tourist routes in our region were discussed at the seminar which was organized with the assistance of the Program of Support to Belarus from the Federal Government of Germany, the Managements of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism of the Brest Executive Committee, the Public Council on Rural Tourism at the Public Organisation "The Union of Businessmen of the Brest Region" and the Public Organisation "Green League" (Berlin, Germany). Bicycle travels across the Brest land generally becomes a popular business. This year the route has been changed a bit and passed basically through the territory of the Brest region. Participants of the tour, mainly Germans and Poles, have crossed the Belarusian-Polish border in Belovezhskaya Pushcha and have covered about 390 km in the most picturesque places of the Brest region during 8 days. Evgeniy ZHIBUL, "Belorusskaya Lesnaya Gazeta" (The Belarusian Forest Newspaper) Conservation of biodiversity in Western Europe where virgin nature is nearly absent is directly connected with the efficiency of the management of especially protected natural area (EPNA). The project GEF-UNEP implemented in the country-participants was pursued the same purpose. Due to the project the system of training and improvement of professional skill of employees of reserves, national parks and protected areas with special purposes has been created. In Western Europe the activity of the EPNAs cannot be conducted without the detailed strategy of the management. In our country only Belovezhskaya Pushcha has such the plan. However, by 2012 all Belarusian national parks and reserves should get these plans. What interesting is today in Belarus for the tourists? The reporter of "The UNION" talks about this to Cheslav Shulga, deputy minister of sport and tourism of Belarus. Elena Nesterenko, Website "InterMedia Consulting" Olga Skibko was lucky to live the most part of her life in the Polish village of Grushki, that is in the heart of the Bialowieza Forest, one of the most beautiful European woods with many rare species of animals. However, not only they inhabit this Forest. Unfortunately, a forest also provides a habitation for dangerous ticks. Olga believes that she became their victim about ten years ago. Approximately at that time she has found the first obvious symptoms of the Lime- borreliosis, a disease of the nervous system caused after a tick sting (a pain of joints and the head are also the symptoms). Hunters, supported by a certain part of representatives of the zoological science serving them (or more precisely, of the pseudo-science because the genuine science develops, instead of standing up for old dogmas) were thought up many myths concerning the wolf which purpose was to deceive the public opinion, to create a negative wolf's image and, as a consequence, to achieve annihilation of this main competitor of the hunters. On October 23 of the last year, our newspaper published a big article "A Song about Bison. What do we know about the life of Nikolai Gussowski?" by Georgiy Korzhenevskiy, a student of local lore from the town of Volozhin. January 31, 2008.| The market economy is getting into Belarusian protected areas
"The Humanitarian Ecological Magazine", No 1 The purpose of biosphere reserves, national parks, churches, libraries, museums and theatres is to save intangible values. It is impossible to expect profit earning from them because they are not the field of business. Their applicability is to make non-financial values. How, for example, can one count up the profit from the Tretiakovskaya Gallery or the Louvre ? Of course, it is possible to follow the other path by placing pinball machines, building a casino and substantial increasing income from tourism development in national parks. However, they will be no national parks more. This is the immoral and anti-ecological way in which, unfortunately, the management of the Belarusian National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" has passed after creation of "The Belarusian Grandfather Frost Manor" there. Moreover, a Professor of Economics from one of the Belarusian High Schools has come to the point that ostensibly "the society has faced a dilemma of submission of ecology to economic laws", it means to a purse of businessmen. It is a pity that Belarusian scientists and experts have completely forgotten the simple truth - Dollar, if even being at a dog's lead, always threats to a wild nature. They eulogize "the market economy" but they do not know what they are doing. The article below is the example of that.

Further in the article is about the situation and problems in Belovezhskaya Pushcha in connection with implementation of the recommendations of the Diploma and about a letter from the Belarusian public to the Council of Europe. The final is an appeal to the President Alexander Lukashenka on who are those you are going with them celebrate the 600-annuversary of Belovezhskaya Pushcha since its first decrees on protection – with the disgraceful people or with men of honour?
