| The system of wilderness protection of Belarus needs to be radically reformed
Heorhi Kazulka, Ecological bulletin "Green Space", No 1
The paper discuss the system of wilderness protection in Belarus which needs to be radically reformed. Belarusian national parks are not nature protection institutions and demonstrate a catastrophe. Today the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is an institution which is not less secret and restricted if compared with any military strategic object. First of all, we need to get publicity and democracy in Belarus. It is indifferent attitude of the majority of Belarusian population to natural values and sanctities. In our country the role of NGOs is scanty. As to problems of the EPNTs, the most of them are just connected to infringement or non-fulfillment of legislation's requirements by authorities.

| Especially Protected Natural Territories of Belarus: to conserve or to hold economy?
Inessa Zenina (Electronic ecological dispatch "Zrukh", No 4)
The dramatic situation on especially protected natural territories of Belarus is described in the article. The conclusion is made that creation of the public network as a system of public participation in the Republic of Belarus in the field of conservation of biological diversity and protection of wild nature is nowadays very topical. The author considers the working group "Nature and Wilderness Protection" in the frame of the public ecological network as an initiator, organizer and information centre. The author hopes to involve in the work of the group as many experts in the field of biodiversity and nature protection as possible. The more people who are not indifferent to problems of protection of wild nature of Belarus will take part in concrete actions, the best results for the sake of nature and people will be achieved.

| Nature has no superfluous parts
Victor KUKLOV, "Narodnaya Gazeta" (The People’s Newspaper) Newspaper, No 110
Preservation of biological diversity is one of the priorities of the ecological policy of our country. A network of especially protected natural territories (EPNT) has being created and continues being under development in Belarus. In 1980-s their total area made 5 to 6 percents, while in the beginning of 2007 it was 8.1 percents (1.6 million hectares). In connection with a new scheme on location of protected natural territories it is expected that the area of EPNT will reach 10 percents in Belarus by 2015. This parameter is recommended by UNESCO.

Why is the Zhitkovichi district of the Gomel region, which is at the centre of the Belarusian Polessie area, worth for visiting by both fans of ecological tourism and supporters of historical and cultural pilgrimage? Vladimir Gulyuta, a deputy chair of the Zhitkovichi district answers this question. All in the country knows about Alexander Maslo, our skilled workman on woodcarving. He put into shape a manor of Belarusian Grandfather Frost in Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

| In one language with nature…
Vera ARTEAGA, "Respublika" (The Republic) newspaper, No 92
Conservation of biodiversity is an important problem actual all over the world. One of the most aspects concerning conservation of biodiversity is preservation of rare species of plants and animals. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is littered with foreign species as much as it can turn to the loss of uniqueness of the wonderful area of the Belarusian nature in the middle-term period if no any actions to prevent this.

Inna YURCHIK, "Respublika" (The Republic) newspaper, No 91
Aspiration to primordial nature is invincible, independently whether a man would try to simplify the life with making many engineering. Belarus is a land of lakes and forests, a land of reserved nature. About two thousand hectares of forests are especially protected. They include four national parks, one reserve, 513 protected areas of special purposes of the national and local importance and 906 natural monuments,Vitaliy Korenchuk, a head of the Department of Wilderness Protection at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection, tells. Three points on an ecological map of the country – the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", the Berezinski Biosphere Reserve and the National Landscape Reserve "Pribuzhskoe Polessie" - are inscribed on a List of World Heritage of UNESCO.

Tatiana VLADIMIROVA, "Respublika" (The Republic) newspaper, No 87
Belarus is bound up to Poland not only with common belt of the border and historical events marks but also with close economic communications. This aspect in our relations is basic. This is in any sense because the next country is a bridge to us to reach markets of the European Union. This is why it's important to strengthen our positions here. Belovezhskaya Pushcha causes constantly growing interest for foreign tourists. In 2005 two international border crossings for tourists were open. They are Pererov-Bialowieza (in Belovezhskaya Pushcha for tourist-pedestrians and cyclists) and Rudavka-Lesnaya (at the August Channel for water tourism).

Vyacheslav SEMAKOV, Website (The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha""
Telling about historical events which have touched Belovezhskaya Pushcha in ÕÕ century to some extent, it is necessary to pay attention, at least in brief, to natural and man-made monuments with which this surprising forest is very rich. However, main sights are, certainly, natural monuments of the Pushcha. This is because they made the Pushcha worldwide popular. They continue to surprise and to please those who visit this ancient forest. In places such as Belovezhskaya Pushcha, you begin to realize that nature creates only perfect things because beauty is one of the immutable properties of the perfect which is only viable.

Sergei MIHOVICH, "Respublika" (The Republic) newspaper, No 71
The academician Vladimir Reshetnikov is sure that the Central Botanical Garden had yet no a grandiose reconstruction, such as this one. To be in Minsk and do not visit the Botanical Garden?! This is like to be in Rome and do not see the Pope … Using this axiom I began our conversation with Vladimir Reshetnikov. We say during a meeting of the scientific council that it is necessary to create sites of decorative selection of the Central Botanical Garden in the Berezinski Biosphere Reserve and in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. We should more demonstrate our work and should carry out tests not only at the Garden but also in the sites of selection.

Many malicious words have been accumulating towards hotels of district towns. I do not know about you but as to me, I quite often spend the night in country towns. Prices in hotels are from the past but service is not for faint-hearted. The town of Kamenetz had a hotel some time ago but then lost it. A tax inspection occupies that old building. It is usual to consider that hotels are not necessary in the small town because there is a lot of them in the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha".

March 22, 2007| Galina Zhuravkova leaves a shadow
March 22, 2007
Marina KOKTYSH, "Narodnaya Volya" (The People's Will) Newspaper, No 45-46
The husband, son and brother of Galina Zhuravkova, an ex-Manager of the Property Management Department of the President, are at large already for a long time. As to Galina Zhuravkova, she was recently met at a ceremony of funeral of the ex-Minister of Health Ludmila Postoyalko. Let's remind that after Alexander Lukashenko pardoned Mrs. Zhuravkova, she disappeared by a mysterious way and she got no information about herself in any way for a long time. However, at the end of the last year reporters have unexpectedly met Zhuravkova in a metropolitan trade complex “Parking” - she tried on boots. And nearly two weeks ago Galina Zhuravkova has appeared at a ceremony of valediction with Mrs. Postoyalko. The ex-Manager of the Property Management Department of the President communicated a bit and even hugged some representatives of the authority, then quickly left to an unknown direction. The former accused had a quite flowering face.
| Nikolai Bambiza "We conserve through increasing"
Tatiana DOBYSH, "Belorusskaya Lesnaya Gazeta" (The Belarusian Forest Newspaper) newspaper, No 12
A lot is written and told about the view of Belovezhskaya Pushcha, one of the largest woodlands in Europe. "However, the fact that the forest has kept its primordial shape is, first of all, due to efforts of people" is what I thought during one of the visits to "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" National Park. But what do we know about the area? Today Grandfather Frost and Snow Maiden certainly are the most famous characters in the Pushcha. However, about one and a half thousand employees work in Belovezhskaya Pushcha as well. Everyone contributes to the goal of maintaining this oasis of untouched nature. We have decided to designate publications under the header "The Keepers", in which we will tell you, dear readers, about people from Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Nikolai BAMBIZA, general director of the State Nature Protection Institution "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" National Park is a main keeper of the Pushcha's forests and their heritage. And today he is our visitor.

| Invited to visit and welcomed to sit at a table…
Leontiy KUCHKO, "Respublika" (The Republic) newspaper, No 291
Will new winds of changes clean dust of Soviet stereotypes concerning unique routes for travels? Any kind of tourism proposes, besides traditionally scheduled ones, entertaining routes and excursions which divert from a passive style of rest. Let's forget about fights of bulls, grandee weddings with theatrical performances and entertainments or ritual dances at a fire which are offered in foreign countries. And what can we offer? There are a very few examples of revival and dealing with our history, such as in Osertsa and the Lidskiy castle. Grandfather Frost in an estate in Belovezhskaya Pushcha gets active basically only by winter.
March 03, 2007| A national property created by generations of our fathers and grandfathers and served the safe existence of our children and grandsons is in danger!
February 21, 2007
Valeriy BRINIH, Electronic dispatch "Green_mov”
Before our eyes the pressure to especially protected natural areas is growing. Authorities of all post-soviet countries explain this by needs of social and economic development. The systematic and purposeful destruction of the nature protection system which was created as long ago as in the Soviet times and which was under some progressive development in the 90-s of the last century proceeds. The national property is in danger! In the frame of the International Social and Economic Union I offer to start a new program under a code name "Our Natural Heritage". I am ready to take responsibility for coordination of this work and I invite all people not indifferent to our protected territories to join this initiative!

27,000 Euros, this is a price for murder of two bison in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. So, a criminal action on murder of a she-bison and its calf by fans of hunting from Switzerland happened in Belovezhskaya Pushcha on November 14 last year and received publicity in both national and foreign mass-media is complete. Two months set by a law to hold an inquiry and to bring a matter into court have expired. However, there are some actual questions. This is especially important because reporters were not introduced into details of the inquiry. As a response to my attempt to learn any little details of the inquiry, I have heard "Well, you are a clever woman…" It meant do not go into mouth of beast. What kind of beast?... And it is extremely interesting why? What sort of a brick wall was found to block the inquiry? And in the end what are actually going on in Belovezhskaya Pushcha?
| There are no experts and there are no demand for them
Leontiy KUCHKO, "Respublika" (The Republic) newspaper, No 269
Rural and ecological tourism is recently in progress. It means that new specialists will be in great demand in the coming years. They are not only a service staff but also managers who are skillful in preparing tasty supper, heating up a sauna or organizing rest, as well as being aware of how to attract tourists including foreign ones. They have to speak foreign languages and to get knowledge on serving hotel facilities, advertising, marketing and providing other modern technologies. Our high schools specially do not teach experts to get this kind of tourist specialization. However, the organization "Rest in village" and employees of the international Project of the UN Development Program "Ecologically sustainable development in the region of Belovezhskaya Pushcha: combining nature protection and sustainable development" gave help. They organize both international training and seminars and provide study, competitions, festivals and presentation, on the basis of Belarusian farm-houses.

Eugeniy KECHKO, "Belorusskaya Gazeta" (The Byelorussian newspaper) Newspaper, No 6
Can golf be considered a Belarusian kind of sports? Are there any chances for it to get accustomed in Belarus? All of these were the subject which a reporter of the "Belorusskaya Gazeta" found out from Alexander Leontiev, a chairman of the Golf Federation, and from Adam Globus, a writer and publisher. I have an enough amount of reach acquaintances and the only that attracts them in Belarus is Belovezhskaya Pushcha. In general, if to concern of an infrastructure and business, I first of all would hope to get Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Bison will rescue us. It will give odds of both golf and mountain skiing.

It already got well-traditional in our country annually to organize a Year Brand competition. The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is among participants who first took part in a competition and won gold medals. The Park was awarded a gold medal in the Heritage Brand section. Do you know how they have designated their mission as a brand-package? "The Pushcha exists to give all of us back to our sources while we are keepers. We were entrusted “to reopen” these sources for present and future generations. The Pushcha opens a source of the boundless responsibility of the Belarusian nation for the mankind to preserve its world property". These words left no one of members of the jury to be indifferent. I asked Nikolai Bambiza, general director of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", how did an idea of the participation in the Year Brand competition come?

The only problem is always to get information in roundabout ways. The present director of the National Park has a very selective attitude to the reporters. January 13, 2007
Victoria IVLEVA, "Novaya Gazeta" (The New Newspaper) newspaper (Russia), ¹ 2
The knock of an axe has made the century-old grief of Belarus more dramatic. In this ordered empire where it would like to be rolled, like a potato, along facades of houses, there is a bewitched place, abnormal flourish. This flourish is called Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Pushcha excludes any designs and verticals. You are feeling here yourself a little part of the living world which attracts by power, eternity and free element. Unique lowland relic forests, the only remained in Europe, are growing and four-hundred-year pines are still making the noise there. The human always lived in Pushcha being closely bound with nature. The nature produced a food for the people while the people protected the wet nurse. It didn't depend neither on wars, nor on the sovereigns. Anyway, it earlier didn't depend on.

There are a lot of the stones like this in Belarus. The stone in Zhirovoch is the most famous of them. A secret of Belovezhskaya Pushcha excites inquisitive minds to an increasing extent. A boulder with the smooth surface lays on a glade there. According to a legend, the Blessed Virgin changed her shoes on it. While the good weather, hollows similar to traces of two legs approximately of 37-th size like being in shoes and nearby bare feet are clearly visible on the stone.
