The list of the people and organizations supported the campaign for saving the Belovezhskaya Pushcha in 2003

At any time Belovezhskaya Pushcha had a lot of friends and defenders. A lot of people defended Pushcha these last years, when the economy of Pushcha went out of control and any kind of violation of nature protection laws took place in form of "care about Pushcha" - arbitrary felling, for instance. First of all these are reporters and active workers of nature protection movement of Belarus. Their publications raised the public initiative to protect Belovezhskaya Pushcha and stopped the development of woodworking complex which impeded the protection activity of the National Park.

They are:

The publications of these authors are available on our site in the part "Articles" or "News". These authors are certainly supported by editorial staffs defending Belovezhskaya Pushcha who prepared the issue of the publications. A lot of employees of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection, scientists - members of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, of High Schools are to be mentioned as well. They did an invisible but hard work and contributed to the preservation of the Pushcha.

The information company to defend the Belovezhskaya Pushcha was supported by some electronic media like: Ekodom-Press (public information edition "Ecodom", Minsk, Belarus) Dzedzich Week-News (Information delivery of youth organizations of Brest, Belarus), "Ecology and human rights" (Bulletin of the Union "To Chemical Safety", publishing director and editor Lev A. Fiodorov, Moscow, Russia). The most active part in publishing information concerning Pushcha has been taken by Belarusian electronic bulletin EcÓInform (moderator Maksim Kapran).

In the end of 2003 after the initiative of the political party BNF the National Committee for Protection of Belovezhskaya Pushcha was founded embracing leading political parties, political and public movement, researchers and honest people. The urgent necessity of developing the strategy of protection of the Pushcha using all informative, scientific and political resources available in the Committee has been declared.

The Public Initiative "For Protection of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha" was created in April of 2003. This organization is neither political and commercial nor religious one. The participants of the coalition are: "Ecodom", "Women Answer", Belarusian Social and Ecological Union "Chernobyl", society "Protection of Rights of Parents and Children", Belarusian Department of International Academy of Ecology. The main task of the coalition is to preserve the Belovezhskaya Pushcha, contribute the solving problems of the Pushcha by joint action of all public organizations. The activity of the coalition aimed to make an independent international examination with the participation of international and national experts, the foundation of Observing Committee by the administration of the Pushcha with participation of environment organizations.

To help Belarusian partners it was decided to carry out the international campaign for protection of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha. The initiators of the Campaign are: the International Social and Ecological Union (SEU) (Russia) and the Ukrainian Coalition "For Wild Nature". The special section on the site of the International Social and Ecological Union has been created. There are full information about the Belovezhskaya Pushcha, pictures presenting barbarian felling of old forest.

On April 23, 2003 The activists of the Kiev Ecological and Cultural Centre, the Nature Protection Team of Ukrainian Agricultural Academy and the Kiev City Komsomol Committee organized manifestations for protection of the Pushcha near the Belarusian Embassy in Ukraine. The demonstrators demanded to stop injurious fellings of the unique relic forest and commercial huntings in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha and handed an appropriate letter to the secretary of the Embassy addressed to the President of Belarus.

We are thankful for this assistance. And we appeal all the others to help us in this activity to preserve this old unique forest. We believe we will take the victory because preservation of Belovezhskaya Pushcha is the sacred duty.

Belovezhskaya Pushcha is valuable, first of all, because this is only the last remnant of ancient primeval forests in Europe. But new managers stubbornly try to transform this forest into an ordinary timber enterprise.

If the large-scale nature using will be continued in Belovezhskaya Pushcha we have a risk to lose one of the last site of wild nature on the flatlands of Europe in the near future. It means that Belovezhskaya Pushcha will remain as a forest site, certainly, but this wood will lose its unique features that distinguish it from thousands of other mane-made woods. The Belovezhskaya Pushcha will remain but its ANCINT CHARACTER and UNIQUENESS will disappear.

This is why we are looking for support of those who worry about the future of nature (don't miss the environment). We are looking for help of each person and organization which take care of preservation of the oldest and the most unique forest of Europe and ask you to SUPPORT THE CAMPAIN FOR SAVING BELOVEZHSKAYA PUSHCHA.

Looking for your assistance,
with best wishes,
The Initiative Group "Belovezhskaya Pushcha - XXI Century".
