December 29, 2013 "Naviny Kamyanechchyny" (The Kamenets News) newspaper Mandate for border guards from Father Frost

On December 26, a ceremony of order from the Pushcha's storyteller to our frontier guards was held at the Belarusian Father Frost's Manor. There were a symbolic border post and the true outfit with a dog. Kind Santa Claus command to the border guards, who came with a group of children "I order you to take the state border for protection and in the New Year's night while chiming of a clock to allow the New Year 2014 freely passing through the frontier from east to west!"

"This good tradition exists already for five years," Deputy Commander of Brest Frontier Group for Ideological Work and Staffing, Colonel Dmitry Devyatov said. "Management of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" helps us in everything. It is because 75 km of the border line pass through Belovezhskaya Pushcha and there are three of the frontier posts there. The kids come here with us not by chance. They must believe in the fairy tale, in Goodness. And one of them is bound to become a border guard. In Minsk we have for this the Cadet School. The Border Service Institute teaches officers for the frontier service. And one can get in the border guards through the ordinary military enlistment for civil residents.

Border guards handed to Santa Claus a souvenir with the inscription "Border Closed," and the kind tale storyteller wished everyone a happy new year.

December 28, 2013 "Brestskiy Kurier" (The Brest Courier) newspaper Father Frost in Belovezhskaya Pushcha opened the border with Poland

There is a day in the year when Father Frost by his order opens the state border in Belovezhskaya Pushcha to allow the New Year freely crossing the frontier. And the border guards promise in any case not to delay the long-awaited holiday at the checkpoint that it was not late and came on true time.

Due to a kind tradition and a decision of specially convened meeting of officers, the border guards raised funds for charity excursions within the annual action "Our Children". The leadership of the National PArk, despite the large number of visitors in the holiday season, enthusiastically responded to the offer to arrange a pre-Christmas trip for children from Brest Social Shelter.

On Thursday these guys witnessed the solemn promise of frontier guards addressed to Father Frost to open the border for the incoming holiday.

Children visited the symbolic performance, met with Father Frost and visited the frontier and border control posts. All little guests received small gifts from magic Santa (of course, no without the involvement of Frontier Group).

As shared by border guards, thanks to such actions, children can visit not only Belovezhskaya Pushcha, but also can get acquainted with life and serves in the border. Since childhood, they will have an idea of the state border, and possibly in the future, will take the example of the military service and will serve in the Frontier Guards. When the guys show the desire to become advocates for state border, the officers promised in the future to consider their candidacy in the first instance.

It should be noted that Brest border guards regularly hold charity events for children from social shelters, orphanages, children from disadvantaged families, as well as for children of frontier guards and military services. This year they have already congratulated children from Kobrin social shelter. They have also organized the festival for young residents of Brest in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. And yet, thanks to the border guards, 20 children will be able to go to the Metropolitan Christmas tree holiday and experience a show in Minsk circus.

December 27, 2013 Website "Virtual Brest" Video: Father Frost ordered the border guard to allow the New Year passing from East to West

On December 26, a festive action of making the order for the state border guard to allow the New Year 2014 passing unobstructed through the state border was held in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, in the Residence of Father Frost.

Deputy Chief of Frontier Group, Head of the Department of Ideological Work and Staffing, Colonel Dmitry Deviatov told to the Web-Portal "Virtual Brest":

We continue the tradition that we began in 2008. That is on the eve of the New Year holidays, when Father Frost in his Residence in the New Year's night puts order for the state border guard to allow the New Year passing smoothly through the state border from east to west. This year we decided to revive this tradition. And in the framework of the campaign "Our Children", we invited 20 children from the Brest Social Shelter to attend not only the ritual performance but also to visit the Residence of Father Frost, receive gifts, and then visit the frontier post with a tour to see how border guards live and serve the state border. Here, on the outpost, we will prepare a gala dinner for the guys. We hope that after this event the children will get very kind and good impressions and it will help them meet the New Year with hope and inspiration.

Dmitry Deviatov also told more about the campaign "Our Children", which is now going on in the country and includes a set of activities that are carried out directly in the border group.

It is no secret of the fact that Father Frost prepared gifts for children with the direct participation of the Frontier Group, and that the funds for such charitable actions are made through the decision of the officers' meeting. Dmitry Deviatov expressed special thanks to the leadership of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" for the help and organization of excursions in the Estate of Belarusian Father Frost.

Kids were met and held up to the gates of the Estate by the character Janka of Belarusian folk tales. At the gates to the Estate, children were waited not only by fabulous guards, but also by the border guard. Grandpa cordially greeted everyone, talked with everyone, listened to requests and photographed for memory.

And then, near the symbolically installed border pillar close to the Father Frost's house, he ordered:

"I order to ensure a smooth transition of the New Year 2014 from East to West through the state border of the Republic of Belarus!" Father Frost had an absolute right for this, because since 2008 he was ordained into honor frontier guard of the Republic of Belarus. And while Father Frost answered numerous questions from reporters, the children stuck at the border pillar pictures with the most cherished their desires, including requests for their mother and family...

December 27, 2013 Website "Diary" Belarusian Grandfather Frost took fifth place in the ranking according to the riches of Christmas wizards

On New Year's Eve, Realtors priced overall landholdings of Father Frost in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha at the 1.05 million Euros. Leaders are his colleagues from Sweden and Russia. According to Newsru.com, Belarusian Father Frost, though this master reaches a record for the big area (he and his team occupy 15 hectares in the famous Belovezhskaya Pushcha), is still inferior to other colleagues. His overall possessions were priced by realtors at 1.05 million Euros.

First place in this ranking goes to Yultomen from Sweden/ His estate with forest and water grounds was estimated at 3 million Euros. Russian Father Frost with his patrimony in Veliky Ustyug went to the second place in the ranking of the wealthiest European winter wizards.

According to realtors, the ownership of Father Frost in Veliky Ustyug and his residence in the Vologda region can be sold for 1.7 million Euros. In addition to the house of Father Frost, this amount covers a hotel with 48 rooms, cottages on the patrimony's territory of about 10 hectares, cafe, sauna, swimming pool, children's playgrounds and a huge ice rink. Analysts were not too lazy to include personal belongings of Grandpa and his transport to this cost a coat, hat, stick, bag for gifts, sleigh and three horses in harness. In 2012, the fortune of Father Frost, estimated from the same point, was 1.6 million Euros.

Pere Noel from France takes third place in the list of prosperous New Year wizards. In addition to the main headquarters in the city of Libourne, where he lives with Mother Noel, the Father Christmas has also overseas residences in other French-speaking countries, for example, in Canada. His fortune is estimated at 1.34 million Euros, as reports Russia Today.

Norwegian Yunilessen, who lives in the resort town of Zavala, is the next after the French counterpart, with the fortune of 1,225 million Euros.

Finnish Joulupukki takes place after the Belarusian colleague, as being the most modest. Despite the fact that he owned respectable 10 hectares in Lapland, the price of his estate does not hold up to a million - 736,000 Euros.

American Santa Claus topped the list of 15 richest fictional characters in 2005 as published by the magazine Forbes. However, according to the editors, his fortune, which he does by producing toys and sweets for children, infinitely huge and cannot be numbered in figures.
December 27, 2013 Website "National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha"" Workshop in the framework of international cooperation

Employees of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" participated in the VI Workshop "Trans-boundary Parks in Harmony with Nature" to discuss the topical aspects of cross-border cooperation of protected areas. The meeting was held in Eberswalde (Germany), in the framework of an agreement between the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", NP "Lower Oder Valley" (Germany), Bialowieza National Park (Poland) and the Regional Directorate of Environment in Szczecin (Poland).

The meeting was initiated by the German side for the preparation of a tripartite joint project. During the visit, two workshops were organized for the process of clarification of initial positions of all participants, for the technical aspects and thematic aspects of the overall project between national parks of the three countries, and for its further development on the principles of harmonization of joint activities on cross-border areas. As summary, the main points of the project will focus on 5 themes :

1. Exchange of staff and experts, and conducting trainings in the framework of the developed training programs (target groups, the format of meetings, presentation of the joint experience, etc.).

2. Trans-boundary management (convergence and harmonization of management plans, the adaptation of the legal framework and the creation of coordinating councils).

3. Environmental monitoring (joint research on problematic aspects of the functioning of natural ecosystems, biodiversity and sustainable development of practical measures for its conservation).

4. Ecological tourism (infrastructure, joint tourism products and their mutual promotion, marketing research, economic benefits, etc.)

5. Public information and promotion of protected areas (development of joint websites, environmental education of the local population, increasing the attractiveness of parks, mass-media policy and conflict resolution in the relationship with the local population).

During the meeting the results of the 1st Summer Academy - an international practice of student from Germany, Poland and Belarus, which took place in Polish Bialowieza in September 2013 was presented. This initiative was implemented through the cooperation of national parks of the three countries.

Conducting the 2nd Summer Academy is scheduled in 2014 on the basis of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha". Therefore, the Belarusian side has shown the possibility of the National Park on placement of students and teachers, field facilities for practical training, and some other activities.

During the visit to the National Park "Lower Oder Valley", there were discussed opportunities for further mutual cooperation between protected natural areas. It covers cross-border tourism through the publishing of printed products (tourist maps, brochures), saturation of the advertising materials on cooperation through the updating information on their own websites, and creation of the posters' corners about the partnership in nature museums of the national parks.
December 27, 2013 "Vecherniy Brest" (The Evening Brest) newspaper Come to us to a light! Natural gas is in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

Under the veil of the outgoing year, natural gas has come to agricultural settlements of Kamenyuki and Dmitrovichi, Kamenets district. Several years ago, thousands of local inhabitants did not dream about this as gasification of small settlements located in the geographical deadlocks (behind Kamenyuki is only forest and Polish border) was considered uneconomic. But during the preparation of the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the strictly protected status of Bialowieza Forest, Head of State said firmly - natural gas is to be in Kamenyuki. And the administrative center of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", as part of the Presidential Decree No 342 dated 08/01/2011, was included in the State Program for Sustainable Rural Development for 2011-2015.

On December 27, the official ceremony of lighting a gas torch was held. This means that the villagers have received efficient, reliable and cheaper source of heat. Natural gas is already today supplied to some of the apartments. We are talking about blocks of flats and single-family homes connected to the capacitive group settings. Gas stoves and pumps are powered by liquefied gas, they already have. Such apartments in Dmitrovichi total 70 and in Kamenyuki 166. The situation around heating is a little more complicated - boilers for solid fuels need to be changed. Some of the villagers have already done so.

But residents of homes that are not connected to the capacitive group settings who wish to use such a boon of civilization, such as natural gas, will have to wait a little fork.

Director of the Kamenetz District Production Management of Gas Facilities Vladimir Parhotsik admits that three decades ago, it seemed impossible. In 1987, when he first came to work for this company, there were in the Kamenetz district only 30 km of gas distribution networks. Now this is 364 km. 45% of the total volume of natural gas, consumed in the district, are for the population that pays only 27% of its cost. If one is to judge, such work of the gas industry for consumers falls to minus. Nevertheless, the process is moving slowly. In the queue another 3 of 17 agro-settlements - Dolbizno, Kalenkovichi and Novitskovichi are waiting for gasification. Villagers of Minkovichi, Rataychitsy and Verhovichi are also asking. Once their street will get for party?

About 500 of them live in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Bison are also permanently settled to the new habitats. They live in our country in 12 areas in national parks and forestry enterprises. All in all in the world, there are more than 4,000 of these animals, which were managed to get back to nature from being close to the extinction.

Belovezhskaya Pushcha becomes a winter center for mass tourism by obtaining a new status - "Belarusian Grandfather Frost's Residence."

The Project "Belarusian Grandfather Frost's Residence", which was launched 10 years ago, has brought a significant income to the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha". "For 10 years we have increased the number of tourists by 108%. This year the earnings from tourism amounted to 30 to 32 billion Belarusian Rubles (more than 100 million Russian Rubles) (~$3.3 to 3.5 million). In 2012, revenues in the National Park gained from the tourism industry accounted for 28 billion in the national currency", Director General of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" Alexander Bury said to "ATOP Bulletin".

He also noted that 30% of the tourist flow in the National Park covers the New Year and Christmas holidays. If earlier populated area in Belovezhskaya Pushcha received 70% of the income from the industry and only 30% from tourism, today, according to the expert, the ratio of the industry and tourism has reached the balance 50% to 50%.

The Belarusian Father Frost's Residence is located 12 km from the village of Kamenyuki (the administrative center of the National Park), in the very depth of the Forest. A Tower of Father Frost, "12 Months Glade" where fairy-tale characters rule games and dances together with guests, cottages and sculptures of fairy tale characters, souvenir shops and much more are there. From mid-December to the end of the Christmas holidays, the Residence of Belarusian Father Frost provides festive celebrations, concerts and interactive programs for children.

70% of visitors who come annually to Belovezhskaya Pushcha are Russian tourists.

Russian tour operators say about the popularity of Christmas tours. According to head of the Tour Company "MultiTur" Irina Kostina, Belovezhskaya Pushcha is the second of popularity after the Russian Great Ustyug. "Programs, which include a visit to a residence of Santa Claus, are the most interesting. So, only Father Frost in Veliky Ustyug and his colleagues in Belarus have true residences", Irina Kostina says.

From December 20th to January 10, Belovezhskaya Pushcha is visited by up to 10,000 tourists a day. In all for Christmas and New Year holidays, Belovezhskaya Pushcha receives more than 100 thousand tourists, many of them come for one day. "Since the Belarusian Father Frost's Residence is open, the number of tourists in the festive winter period increases by an average of 15,000 people a year. There is an opportunity for further growth, since we can service to 18 thousand visitors a day. If more visitors, we have already to restrict the flow," Alexander Bury said. He also told that hotels in the National Park can simultaneously accommodate 280 people. By 2014, more hotels will be built and number of rooms will be increased by another 300 accommodations.

"We cannot build more accommodation facilities because this is a specially protected natural area. But now, we have selected four investment areas outside the National Park, and there are going to build hotels or guest houses there. It is to focus on our Polish colleagues. On the Polish territory of the Reserve there are also few hotels, but localities next to the National Park are actively involved with servicing tourists in small private hotels. We seek to engage the local population and provide them with jobs. Construction of new hotels in nearby villages to the National Park will solve many social and economic problems of the local population, as well as allow many tourists stay here for a few days," Alexander Bury said.
December 17, 2013 Website "Tomin.by" Nature conservation organizations will today sign a Memorandum on Belovezhskaya Pushcha

Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", NGO "APB-BirdLife Belarus" (APB) and the Frankfurt Zoological Society will be signed today, on December 17.

The Action Plan annexed to the document provides for joint work in various areas over the next five years.

As TOMIN.BY learned from APB, the main purpose of the agreement is cooperation in strengthening the wilderness protection in the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" - promoting the natural dynamics of forest ecosystems and restoration of hydrological conditions of disturbed areas. Support to the network of scientific permanent plots for forest monitoring laid back in the 50s and research on model species and groups of animals bats and carnivores - will be promising areas in the field of science.

Most recently, the strictly protected area of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" has nearly doubled, from 30.7 thousand to 57 thousand hectares.

"Not only the size of the Wilderness Protection Zone, but also the fact of expansion of the Wilderness Protection Zone for such a big surface makes Belovezhskaya Pushcha so unique to conservation science. Such large-scale examples are very few in modern history of Belarus and Europe," director of ACP Victor Fenchuk said. "Understanding the changes that occur in intact natural communities after removing the human pressure will effectively build environmental work, not only here but also in other natural areas in Belarus and abroad."

Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZO) is known for its environmental work in the most important national parks of the world, such as the plains of the Serengeti in Africa and the rain forests of South America.

"Belovezhskaya Pushcha is one of the biggest intact forests and a beautiful forest national park in Europe. We intend to work together on the development of studies that provide a better understanding of the biological significance of this unique old-growth forest. We will also work together to restore the natural character of the small rivers and swamps on the territory of the National Park. That will contribute to the strengthening of its natural characteristics", Mikhail Brombaher, coordinator of European programs of Frankfurt Zoological Society, said.

Today all guests to the holiday are gathered at the foot of an evergreen beauties - Belovezhskaya Christmas tree also celebrates its anniversary. However, according to forest measurements, the birthday tree is young enough - it is "only" 150 years.

This is the tallest Christmas tree in Europe. Several years ago, a 30-meter tree in London kept "palm", but the Belarusian giant spruce already grown to 40.5 meters.

Festivities on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Estate will continue for three days. The real magic heroes will sign documents on cooperation, will establish First International "Fabulous Mile" and will even lay world's first "Avenue of Glory Fabulous" with handprints and mitten-prints of magical characters.

Good Sovereign of winter, in addition to wonderful ones, signed very real agreements on cooperation and opened a unique map of fairytale characters of Belarus and Russia. To travel through tales easier, a special mile pole appeared in the Residence of the winter wizard. It indicates not only names, but also the distance to the places of residence of fairy tale characters.

Alexei Kozlovsky, author of Fabulous Map:
This Map can be considered as a social network. You are simply informed about places where some characters appeared. The most important thing is not the benefit to me, but to the heroes. I want to see the characters evolving, because it is our folklore. Our historical richness is great and it is sin not to use it.

December 13, 2013 Website "Real Brest" Breaches to be on the holiday of the Father Frost's Manor

The road accident that happened the day before near the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is still fresh in the memory. A bus from Grodno, riding to the Park, got into a ditch and rolled over on its side. It turned out that his driver had not passed maintenance checkup and had no insurance for passengers.

Therefore, traffic police and employees of the Brest branch of the Transport Inspection at the Ministry of Transport got instructions - check bus drivers for required documents to the fullest extent. This covers those drivers who are now carrying children in Belovezhskaya Pushcha for the Santa Claus's festival on December 13 to 15.

The staff of the Transport Inspection checked buses in the parking at the gate to Belovezhskaya Pushcha

These documents include a roadmap, registration certificate, maintenance checkup, insurance for vehicle and passengers and many others. If at least one of them was absent with the driver, it takes the punishable administrative responsibility.

A bus driver from "MinskOblAvtoServis" sign an act of inappropriateness

And the interesting thing was that drivers from the Department of Ideology, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Svislotch Executive Committee, Grodno region, who had no mark on maintenance checkup, and a driver from "MinskOblAvtoServis" of the bus with the words on its board "Lenin's Double Order Minsk Region" were among the offenders who were punished by fines. He, as it turned out, brought children and parents, who work in the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, and he was with the overdue insurance for passengers.

Both of them were fined - from 0.5 to 2 base units. Altogether 24 buses were checked. 5 of them had infringements.

December 13, 2013 Website "APB-BirdLife Motherland" What do we know about bison?

Why is impossible to create a large population of bison in Belarus? Where now can see these animals? What can be happening with them in the future? That was the topic which the students learned about during the lecture "The past, present and future of bison in Belarus." On December 12, a regular zoo-thursday in the Center for Bioresources at the National Academy of Sciences has been held.

It turns out that no one bison was in the territory of Belarus some time ago (the latter one was killed in 1919), and there were only 52 animals all over the world by 1926! That's why works have been started to revive these animals in our country, in Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

There is a widespread belief that bison can be seen only in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. But it is not so. The largest population - 456 animals is there. Belarus has totally nine populations of bison, and two more are planned to create. These animals are also kept in several zoos, in Mogilev zoo-garden and even by a farmer.

It is impossible to create a large population of bison In Belarus because of the high density of the human population. People are the basic factor to disturb these animals. Also in our country is difficult to identify the area that will be favorable for a big number of bison. They are large animals. Their weight can reach in rare cases a ton, and the height at the withers is up to 185 cm.

Now the Program "Bison" is in Belarus. Its basic idea is to create several bison populations totaling 1,500 animals. When they will become the species out of a Red Data Book, then we can go from increasing the number of animals to improving their quality.

Thanks to everyone who came to zoo-Thursday. We hope to see you again on January 9. Eugene Chizh, director of the Grodno regional office of APB and coordinator of the program on satellite tracking cuckoos, in his following lecture will talk about the bird of 2014 - cuckoo!
December 12, 2013 Website "Tourism and Leisure" Individual tourists will still be able to get to the festival in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

The 10th anniversary of Belarusian Grandfather Frost's Estate in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, which will be held December 13 to 15, promises to be a large-scale event. Tourist coaches are full and to book a place in the group of tourists is already impossible. But can you go on holiday alone?

TIO.BY was answered in the Tourism Department of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" that individual tourists still have the opportunity to get to the event on any day of celebration by buying standard tickets 110,000 Br (~$12) for adults and 90,000 Br (~$10) for children. To prevent problems with car parking and to maintain order on the roads and parking, the traffic police will be involved for holidays. But as for the accommodation, as we were explained in the Tourism Department, presently all the rooms in four hotels of the National Park and guest houses in forestry areas are booked.

So, people wanting to get the holiday in tourist groups have a little chance to do it. "Series of corporate events are coming with the advent of Christmas and New Year's holidays and this event is very popular for corporate groups. In this regard, the groups are complete very quickly. For example, we send to the event a bus with corporate tourists and one ordinary group. There are no seats in buses anymore," said in the company "Gloubal Travel."

The Program of celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Belarusian Grandfather Frost's Estate will last three days and includes the birthday celebration of the highest living Christmas tree in Europe - 150 years old, the birthday of Fairy Map of Russia and Belarus, and, of course, the birth of the Estate of Father Frost. The concert in honor of the anniversary of the Estate of Father Frost will end the festival. According to the press service of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", it is expected that the guests will arrive from different parts of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. It is expected that Father Frost from Great Ustyug, Snegurochka from Kostroma , King of Berendey from Pereslavl, World Cossack Guards Santa Claus from Gatchina, Baba Yaga from Kukoboya and other fairy tale characters will join the festival.

Twenty-two years ago - December 8, 1991 - at the residence "Viskuli" in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, leaders of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine Stanislav Shushkevich , Boris Yeltsin , Leonid Kravchuk and heads of governments of the three Slavic republics of the USSR signed an agreement establishing the Commonwealth of Independent States. The so-called Belovezhskoe Agreement ended the 69-year history of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The dissolution of the USSR as a subject of international law and geopolitical reality was announced by leaders of those Soviet republics, which established it in 1922.

December 06, 2013 "Vecherniy Brest" (The Evening Brest) newspaper Not be privatized

By April 1, the official accommodation will be rental.

36 families residing in Belovezhskaya Pushcha wrote a collective letter to the Office of the President of Belarus to allow them to privatize apartment. They wrote it not the first time, and recently they got the answer which is not surprised them. "Official residential premises and apartments which are in the operational management of state environmental agencies ... are not subject to privatization," is said in the official response to the appeal.

But they still had a faint hope - what if? People, who have lived in the houses "for staff only" from 10 to 40 years, understands that the chances to get premises to the private property are shrinking with each passing day. In summer, a draft presidential decree has been prepared and submitted to the government. According to it, all official staff apartments (in the country it is about 79 thousand ones) will be included in the fund of premises of the commercial use. And, as it was recently told by the Belarusian president, "all populated staff premises and special accommodations" are already planned to move in rental housing fund by 1 April, 2014. And from July 1, 2016, all state-owned apartments not privatized to that day will also be joined to the fund.

It is more or less clear regarding the privatization of public housing. . Another situation is towards the staff apartments. Many decrees designed to bring clarity to this issue came out over the past decade.

December 06, 2013 "Komsomolskaya Pravda" (The Komsomol Truth) newspaper A 600 year-old oak tree to die because of the tourists in Belovezhskaya Pushcha killing it?

There are rumors that visitors of the National Park scrape bark from a giant tree for memory.

Information that the 600-year-old oak tree dies in Belovezhskaya Pushcha appeared on Brest websites this week. It is like tourists cut pieces of bark for souvenirs, amulets and memorable favors. And not tourists from bus tours do it, but cyclists. It is said that, because of this, the National Park's employees had even scatter bark near the oak and pine that tourists did not touch the trees. According to legend, the Pushcha's oldest oak tree gives strength to women, and the 350-year-old queen-pine grant it for men.

For official comments, "Komsomolskaya Pravda" appealed to the Information Department of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha".

"Just 10 days ago, I was near the oak and there were no new bark cuts on it!" specialist of the Department Anna Dengubenko denied rumors. "And such latest cases of it were done 15 years ago. Yes, there are several old spots on the oak, where it is seen that once the crust was cut off, but since that time there were no more cases like those. Believe me, if something like that was found, we would have figured out this person. And he would pay a huge fine. By the way, we always tell to our tour guides do not create unhealthy excitement around the oak tree and do not tell legends about some mystical things.

December 04, 2013 Website "The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha"" Inventory of beavers and wild boars

Proper hunting management is impossible without timely preventive, biotechnical, breeding and regulating activities to keep the number of wild animals. To do this, first of all, is necessary to know their amount and demographic composition. Therefore, in accordance with the "Rules of hunting management and hunting", inventory of beavers in the settlements is now carried out in the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", as well as the number of wild boars by mapping findings and tracks on feeding grounds and through questionnaire (survey) is counted.

Inventory of beavers is particularly difficult. These animals live on the banks of small rivers and canals, which are usually heavily waterlogged and impassable in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Beavers dig holes for living on higher ground, while on low ones they often build "lodges" from tree branches and bushes, and fastened them with silt and earth. The make entrance to the house usually under water. In late fall, beavers are stepping up on fodder for the winter. During this period they are the easiest to be detecting. Therefore, survey of beaver is carried out before freezing ponds. To calculate the number of beavers, the number of their settlements is marked and then their final number is determined by using the conversion factor. It should be noted that the beavers now are fairly common in the National Park. Sometimes their activity even harms the forest. The fact is that they built dams which retain water and it floods the surrounding areas, thereby dying forest.

According to the results of the inventory of beavers and wild boars, the number of these animals will be set and their impact on the surrounding ecosystems will be assessed. Then proposals to regulate their populations will be made.
December 03, 2013 Website "Tomin.by" Tourists destroy a 600 -year-old oak tree in Belovezhskaya Pushcha (photo)

This is a dismal picture - the trunks of the oldest trees in Belovezhskaya Pushcha a 600 -year-old oak and a 350-year-old pine are slowly but surely becoming like tree trunks in zoo-enclosures with bison. They are scraped off.

But the difference is that old-timer trees in the wild forest are not damaged by animals. This is done by tourists.

"Cyclists cut for souvenirs," our tour guide surprised us.

PhD of Biology Heorhi Kazulka believes that employees of the National Park themselves provoked the "gift hype" at the past.

"When tourism started to be actively developing in the Park, guides lured tourists with some "tall tales". For example, the oldest oak tree gives sexual virility for men and the oldest pine tree does it for women. Hype started growing. The end of this can be seen in zoo-enclosures. Trees, the bark of which was wiped off by bison, eventually died. The remaining trees had to be defended with poles.

The case with bison is easier. They understand the prohibitions and will not invent ways of penetrating the trunk.

But how is to save tree-patriarchs from tourists?

At one time, there began to scatter ...(!) imported bark around the oak and pine in the National Park. Then trees were fenced. Visitors, brought on the bus, gets explanation - "No!". But cyclists who are on the move on their own, are still out of the control.

Is it really necessary the trees to wrap in barbed wire? From tourists...

The TOMIN.BY team worried about the situation offers another way - in the souvenir shops to establish selling bark packed in original bags. To install a video surveillance is considered as a dramatic way.
