June 30, 2008 Website "Belarussian Green Portal" The National Park "Pripyatskiy" to move its location"

The National Park "Pripyatskiy" is ending its "moving" from the town of Turov to the village of Lyaskovichi of the Petrokov district. In September, by a Forester Day, employees of the scientific department being among the last migrants will move to the village of Lyaskovichi.

We have tried to find out from the employees of the National Park what was the necessary ground for transition of the administration of the National Park to other inhabited locality.

"There is no the rational explanation of this. The village of Lyaskovichi, where the overall administration will be located, is situated on the left bank of the river of Pripyat. Expenses to go to the job place, to permanent plots and routes will be grown. Extra 60 km from Lyaskovichi to reach the basic woodland of the National Park where they are located will be", one of the employees of the scientific department says.

"The director of the National Park has simply wanted to do so. Since the date of his appointment, he lived no one day in Turov and he went all time from Lyaskovichi where he lives. Then he began to visit the office a few times per one month. A chief accountant, lawyer- adviser and others have gradually been moved to Lyaskovichi. All others will also be moved soon", Victor N., recently dismissed from the National Park in connection with expiring the work contract, has explained.

"The Museum of Nature remains to be in Turov. A new museum will appear in Lyaskovichi over a few years", one of the employees of the department of tourism and ecological education has specified.

The employees of the National Park, those who have families and habitation in Turov, are in disquieting expectation – who of them will be moved to Lyaskovichi, who will be left in Turov and who will be dismissed - it is unknown beforehand.

The management of the National Park gives no comments upon the reason of change of the location of the administration of the nature protection institution.

The presidents have commemorate a memorial date of the Great Patriotic War in the city of Brest

Yesterday, on the anniversary since the beginning the Great Patriotic War, Dmitriy Medvedev has visited Brest. The president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko waited him there; near the legendary Brest fortress (it has taken upon itself the first attack of fascists). The day for the meeting was hot. Being under the baking sun they should lay wreaths at the Eternal Fire, to communicate with Russian and Belarusian veterans and to negotiate about the Union state.

About hundred veterans were gathered in the Brest fortress. They were found informed and politicized. They have also rejoiced together with the presidents in the smashing victory of our football players over the Dutch.

Then the presidents communicated twosome nearly hour and a half. In the upshot they have agreed to follow the agreement about creation of the Union state signed in 1999.

We have carried out revision of the projects existed and came to a conclusion that the movement forward is very good, Medvedev has declared.

In closing of the visit Lukashenko has prepared a surprise to Medvedev. He carried him to Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

I would like that Dmitriy Medvedev could see that place where the world power was "summed up" once, Lukashenko has informed. This is a sacred place. However, in his opinion, it was defiled. Perhaps, we being now in this place will think up something good for our people?..

"When we went with Dmitriy Medvedev in the Brest fortress, I saw in his eyes what he thinks. He thought the Belarusians are fine as they have saved this monument", Lukashenko has said. "We have restored this relic with help of the Russians and Dmitriy Medvedev has noted that here, in the Brest fortress, all was done humanly. It should be in this way that people did not forget about a feat of the nation".

June 10, 2008 "Respublika" (The Republic) newspaper, No 105 All is according to the plan

Builders get down to business in the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" to bring new features and shapes by its 600th anniversary.

A regular meeting of the managing committee on preparation and organisation of the celebration in September of 2009 was held in the National Park. Because of this case, Nikolai Domashkevich, chief of the Property Management Administration of the President of Belarus, Ivan Bambiza, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, and other persons in charge have come to there. It was discussed how the plan of actions authorized by the Council of Ministers of country which should be finished by the anniversary. The plan includes 60 points, each of which requires a certain managing efforts and financial expenses. Which of them are the most important? What is of the top priority to do? What new will appear in the shape of the reserved forest by the anniversary? These and other questions were addressed by the reporter of the newspaper to Nikolai Bambiza, director of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha".

"One of the top-priority tasks is to build an ecological and educational centre here. It will appear in the reserve in exchange of the today existing museum of nature which does not correlate anymore with modern requirements of collecting, storing and demonstrating historical and natural history's data concerning the most ancient European forest. The centre will include a new building where the administration of the National Park and a house of ecological education, in which is planned to create a unique school of dialogue with the environment, will be placed. By the anniversary it is also necessary seriously to take care about the people living in the area and in the vicinity of Belovezhskaya Pushcha. It should be installed gas in the village of Kamenyuki, the main inhabited locality in the area. Other villages located on the National Park's territory, first of all their roads, will also be renovated. The transformation of the river of Lesnaya (Forest River) originating within the protected forest is planned. In the place where the river is running through the village of Kamenyuki, the river bed shall be cleared and deepened. The purpose is to restore the drying up parts of the river's old bed to the good environmental conditions of the past. All of this work will allow us to get the Lesnaya river back like it was approximately three hundred years ago. This, undoubtedly, will have a positive effect on the river's health and on the external shape of Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

These kinds of design works and other preparations are almost complete. Approximately in one week, builders and workers of other professions will get down to business in the National Park.

June 10, 2008 "Sovetskaya Byelorussia" (The Soviet Byelorussia) newspaper, No 105 The melody of protection

The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is preparing for the anniversary

An asphalt road (!) warns by first about future changes in the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha". One can drive out from the city of Brest to the village of Kamenyuki and meet warning signs along the road. You have to lower speed. Road repair! It's logically. If the National Park is going to make a tourist flow bigger, everything should be thought over in details. All infrastructures – a good road, a comfortable hotel or a restaurant with original kitchen – is important in this case.

One of these days a working meeting with participation of Nikolai Domashkevich, Manager of the Property Management Department of the President, was held in the National Park. It was discussed what it should be done that to make the future celebration, the 600th anniversary since first nature protection acts in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, of internationally important and the National Park of one of the most visited tourist objects in Europe.

It should be prepared for this anniversary religiously and carefully, Viktor Sakovskiy, vice-president of the Brest Executive Committee, emphasizes. The Grandfather Frost manor is already under reconstruction. The museum, restaurant and cafe will soon be renewed. Workers on road maintenance and housing and communal services, builders and artists have much work. The village of Kamenyuki situated near the entrance to Belovezhskaya Pushcha will be changed beyond recognition. Apartment houses, social and cultural infrastructure and avenues should be repaired. We will also change engineering networks.

It shall have to approve an emblem of the holiday. There were considered two kinds at the meeting.

The emblem was approved by the art-directed council. There were many remarks and, therefore, the final version is yet not accepted. It is still under revision, general director "Belkhudozhpromysl" Vasiliy Gribanov did not tell in details but "removed from secret" bison will be designed on the emblem. All of 19 factories of the association are working for the next anniversary during some months. And it is now rather easy to be convinced that the National Park is OK with souvenirs. They are very different in a souvenir shop located in the museum of the National Park to satisfy all customers' wishes and their financial possibilities. A bison figurine, for example, could be bought by spending from 6,000 Roubles (~3 US $) to ... over 200,000 (100 US $).

What kind of the National Park shall we see by the celebrations? Undoubtedly, it shall be an attractive tourist object and, as before, especially protected and unique.

A newspaper's note

The Belarusian part of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" covers over 163,000 hectares. 18 oldest trees of Europe are growing there. In 1992, Belovezhskaya Pushcha was recognized a UNESCO's World Heritage Site and in 1993 it was given a status of Biosphere Reserve. In 1997, the National Park was awarded a European Diploma.

June 09, 2008 Website "TUT.BY" Belovezhskaya Pushcha to turn over a new managing line

A management plan of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" for the nearest 10 years should be authorized at the national level up to the end of the summer, deputy director on since of the National Park Dmitriy Bernatskiy has informed the BelaPAN News Agency.

Let's remind the management plan is necessary that to prolong validity of a European diploma given to the National Park. This diploma is a prestigious award to appreciate successes of national parks and reserves in the field of nature protection. The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" has gained it in 1997 for wild nature conservation's achievements.

The Belarusian party should submit the management plan in October of 2007 to discuss it a session of the CE Committee on Conservation of Biological and Landscape Diversity. However, it was failed to prepare the plan by this term. Instead of it the Belarusian Ministry of International Affairs has submitted a letter to the CE Committee in which reasons of the delay in preparation of the plan were explained and it was also affirmed that nature protection and economic activity in Belovezhskaya Pushcha meet to the requirements and recommendations of the Council of Europe.

The Committee has taken into account explanations of the Belarusian party and has firstly rescheduled the term of consideration of this issue for November of 2007 and then for the spring of 2008. On March 17, in Strasbourg, the decision on results of the session of the experts' commission of the Council of Europe dealing with Diploma awarding to protected areas was accepted to prolong the European Diploma only after the management plan of the National Park will be authorized at the national level.

Dmitriy Bernatskiy has told that the plan is now completely ready and should be coordinated with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection of the Republic of Belarus. It is expected that this process will take about one or two months.

After the plan statement will be accepted at the national level, its final version will be submitted to the CE experts. The CE representatives are going to make sure that the plan "meets the European standards and completely satisfies to its purpose".

The celebration is planned for 2009. However, preparation for this significant date is already today in progress.

Scientists from Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland have met together in Belovezhskaya Pushcha not long ago. The infrastructure of the National Park will considerably be renewed by the anniversary. However, as before, the National Park will remain the only place in Europe where rare ecosystems and the unique forest are carefully protected.
June 07, 2008 BP-21 Website News Service A final school ball in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

Yesterday final-year pupils of the Kamenyuki secondary ecological school that is in the administrative centre of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" have met the last school-dawn in their life. And before a final school ball was held including a solemn ceremony of handing of school-leaving certificates and giving congratulations both for the pupils, their teachers and parents.

The final 11 form of the Kamenyuki school is very small - only 9 men - this year. However, as to school results and discipline, it was one of the best in school. The graduate Nikolai Kazulka is awarded with a gold medal for excellent knowledge as the results of the education. Other guys have received various diplomas and certificates. And in general, this form was simply beautiful, both the girls and the youths. It would be desirable to wish to all of them good luck, happiness and success on the new, already independent way and to say kind thanks to teachers for their hard work.

It remains only to regret that almost no one of them will live and work in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. This when the young people in search of the best future leave Belovezhskaya Pushcha to look for strange lands already became a sad tradition for the last years…
