The National Park hosted an international seminar on cross-border cooperation which was summed up a decade of work.

Svetlana Vechorko reports: The format of the international workshop did not prevent this event become a gathering of old friends. It can be described as almost historic. An agreement on establishment of the Euroregion "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" was signed exactly 10 years ago, in the same warm day in May. Three districts of the Belarusian side - Kamenetsky, Pruzhansky and Svislochsky and Polish one - Hajnowka County are parts of it.

10 years for public initiative is a considerable period. Not only trees in the forest are grown during this time. Dozens of large and small projects, mainly by attracting foreign investments, were implemented in the framework of the cross-border cooperation.

Improvement of the tourist attraction and creation of new economic opportunities for the population within the frontier districts are among priorities of the Euro-region as declared. It must be said that the locals really have become to benefit more actively from its proximity to the unique natural area. Like mushrooms after a rain, agro-farms are growing in the Pushcha's vicinity. The Kamenetsky and Pruzhany districts are today's leaders in the Brest region concerning their number.

A bypass road built on the perimeter of the National Park opens up new perspectives for the development of international tourism. At the same time, the potential of the region, according to experts, started working in its no entirety yet. Proposals for the development of integrated tourist routes were announced at the seminar. For example, it is the trip which begins in the Polish Bialowieza and ends in the Belarusian Ruzhany or Kosovo.

So, participants are confident that this Euro-region has a great future. The most important thing is to look in one direction, that is Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

May 24, 2012 Website "BEZBOLOT.NET" Future protected areas of Belovezhskaya Pushcha in trouble

Алексей Степанов. Журавли летят. 1891

A few days ago information reached us that the border areas of the northern part of Belovezhskaya Pushcha are drained at a brisk pace.

Works are carried out near the uninhabited village of Nikor. These areas will be part of the inviolable forest lands in the near future.

The project for reclamation was developed two years ago and started for implementation in 2011. The draining of marshes could not be stopped at that time because the defenders of Belovezhskaya Pushcha did not have enough collective strength. We learned from the colleagues of the Environmental Organization "Belarus Birds' Life" that the wild bog "Nikor" was destroyed by land reclamation a year ago. Local residents turned to us for help as they concerned of renewed drainage works and they can see competently what is happening in their native land. They want to preserve pristine nature.

After talking with one of the locals, it became known that the drying is carried out on this territory within a year. Now old canals dug during the Soviet era are cleaned, but also new ones are made. Estimating the speed of works, it can be assumed that the consumer is going to get full reclamation before lands become strictly protected.

The project is being financed from the local budget. The former government has already conducted the melioration on the north side of Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

We will continue to be engaged in this problem and plan the expedition to the area for exploration, assessment and, if possible, confrontation to save the national heritage values.

May 20, 2012 Website "EuroRadio" Small elks from Pinsk to be waiting in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

About a month ago, the pensioner family from the village of Zavidchitsy that is in the Pinsk district sheltered three small elks.

Kids walked through the forest with no adult elk for an unknown reason. The villagers, in spite of the criticism of foresters, took out the abandoned and weak and hungry animals and began to feed them on cow's milk.

It's interesting that the chairman of the local agricultural enterprise, as learning of this, allowed taking milk at the farm. Then the pets are going to be delivered in Belovezhskaya Pushcha where the local experts are able to hold a special rehabilitation and return small elks to the wild environment.
