A highest European Christmas tree is in Belarus. About 5,000 tourists per day come to Belovezhskaya Pushcha on the eve of a New Year to look at it.

Numerous tourists like true pilgrims come to Belovezhskaya Pushcha. In these days a major Belarusian Grandfather Frost (Santa Clause) accepts about 5,000 visitors per day. They are from Belarus, Europe, North and South America, and even from Africa. They go to see both the Santa's estate and Belovezhskaya Pushcha because this wood is unique. There is no other ancient wood in Europe such as this saved up to now.

Only Litvin lakes in Croatia and Belovezhskaya Pushcha as unique natural monuments got awarded with all existing international diplomas. There are no reserves all over the world which are analogues to the Belarusian one. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is recognized as a World Heritage Site of Mankind. This evidence also attracts numerous tourists for visiting, especially now, on the eve of the New Year.

The inhabitant of Riga Catharine Osipchikova noted "We wanted very much to see Belovezhskaya Pushcha and the Grandfather Frost's Residence for a long time. We liked it very much, our impressions are very good. There is much interesting to tell in Riga about".

The highest in Europe Christmas tree is a new sight of Belovezhskaya Pushcha in this year. England took last years' priority in regards to the heightest Christmas beauty-trees. A 30-meter high Christmas tree impressed on by one's beauty in London some years in succession. The Belarusian tree grew 40.5 meters high. But it was dressed up for the first time. This Christmas tree is alive that makes one more its feature. The cut tree was set in London, by the way.

The expert on local lore Vyacheslav Semakov emphasized that "the Englishmen are already aware of it and already resigned to the fact that our Christmas spruce three is the higher than their one. But there is no wish to give back the priority, therefore they have made a longest bench close to the Christmas tree. Its length is 200 meters".

One can touch a deer in the fairy-estate which drive the Grandfather Frost all the night and turns to a tree in the earlier morning. One can touch a magic mill which will grind all sins and will leave them for the past. Those who were not able to visit the major Belarusian Grandfather Frost write numerous letters to his address. 60,000 letters were already delivered for today. The Grandfather Frost makes answers to each of them without fail.

The seminar "Belovezhskaya Pushcha Euro-region: perspective development" was held in Bialowieza (Poland) on December 15-16. One of the basic objectives of the seminar was development of tourism in the area around Belovezhskaya Pushcha, both in Poland and Belarus. Top-managers from Minsk, representatives of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, and also experts of Kamentz and Pruzhany districts who are responsible for tourism took part in discussions as the Belarusian party. Three people represented the Kamenetz district. The neighbours have achievements to teach us. About three hundred thousand tourists visit the Polish part of Pushcha every recent year. We, excluding pupils who come to a residence of Grandfather Frost, have twenty times less visitors. Therefore tourism in the Belarusian part of the Euro-region has rather big prospects for development.
December 21, 2005 Website "TUT.BY" About 5,000 tourists visit an Estate of the Belarusian Grandfather Frost in Belovezhskaya Pushcha in some days

A new record was recently set up in an estate of the Belarusian Grandfather Frost in Belovezhskaya Pushcha - about 100 groups comprised about 5,000 tourists visit the estate in some days.

A BELTA's reporter was told in a reception office of the Grandfather Frost that the quantity of excursions is growing as the New Year comes nearer. Such attention is not casual because there are too much "temptations" there, both for children and the adult. At once after visitors pass a gate guarded by two knights - Dub-Dubovich, the Oak-knight, and Vyaz-Vyazovich, the Elm-knight, - they are immersed in the surprising world of a fairy tale. Thirteen various objects situated on the visitors' way force to forget about humdrum life and to enter an empire of the present marvel for some hours. A stone of desires, a magic well, houses of the Grandfather Frost and Snow Maiden, a wind mill, a deer mounting and other sights are no matter of indifference to the tourists. A skarbnitsa - storehouse of letters and drawings sent by children all over Belarus or Grandfather Frost's grotto - is especially impressive.

A living spruce tree, the largest in Europe and forty meters high, is located at the centre of the estate, for round folk dances and New Year's songs around the tree. The experts assert that this spruce tree grew half a meter tall for the last year.

Pseudo-ecological tourism and education in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

Announcement on the beginning of the Public information campaign "BELOVEZHSKAYA PUSHCHA - WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT?" devoted to problems of ecological education and tourism in the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha".

Last years, on a background of incessant public scandals and unmasking connected with infringement of nature protection legislation and large-scale fellings of relic reserved wood of Belovezhskaya Pushcha which have a poor scientific base, the administration of the National Park actively developed tourism. For these purposes the government allocated significant finances and equipment. Overhaul of basic infrastructure was conducted, service was improved and a Grandfather Frost's residence was built in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. All this, plus permanent advertising in central mass-medias and some governmental decisions to limit the rest of children abroad, allowed a considerable increasing number of visitors coming to the National Park. In this way the Belarusian state provides a perspective politics and creates some kind of a tourism model in Belovezhskaya Pushcha which should become an example and tourist card of Belarus.

It would seem that it is necessary to be glad of such the events and evolution because, for sure, the development of tourism should become a priority way to make progress of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha region and should replace quick consuming natural resources of the reserved wood in the future, which is a practice till now. Nevertheless, last months' events are a basis to doubt in getting success planned by the government. It proved to be that advertising and external luster of the repaired buildings and show-windows hide a "facade for show", non-professional level, weakness, and frequently simply pot-boiler of how eco-tourism activity was organized. First of all, it concerns to ecological education in the National Park.

"We shall put hedgehog in your trousers!", Nikita Khrushchev, the former USSR leader of those times, responded literally to threats of the enemy party in such the wit-way. The events developed, by the way, very dramatic. The world hung by a tread to start the third world war, the nuclear one.

Since the middle of 60-s, at the edge of the Soviet land - in woods in the west of Byelorussia, rocket arms were hastily placed. Secret cargoes, secret building... 155 rockets of the middle distance range were set up in the area of the country. Objects in the West European countries were their target. According to a Soviet military defense doctrine, it was the serious factor to hold aggressive politics of NATO.

It is narrowed about the past top-secret objects of the Soviet army in woods of Western Byelorussia in animated and interesting form. However, a reader will also "visit" an office of the USA "major missile specialist" Werner von Braun, and nuclear arsenal dungeons.

"The USSR's disintegration: sight from Belovezhskaya Pushcha", this chapter narrows about events happened in Belovezhskaya Pushcha in December 1991. It was the troubled time.

In the section "Nearby the Pushcha's forest", it is narrowed about weekdays of tourism managers, telecommunications workers, road police employees, security guards, businessmen, railwaymen and a museum of old locomotives in Brest.

A story about the general Belarusian Grandfather Frost is no of the "biggest secrets". His estate in Belovezhskaya Pushcha is well known. And who plays a role of the fantastic personage? It proves to be that he is Vyacheslav Semakov, the scientist and man of the most interesting fortune. It is on the page 242 of the book about.

The book "Secrets of Belovezhskaya Pushcha" calls inquisitive people to recognize the ancient wood and its vicinities. The authors write as though they invite - come "to warm the heart at high birch trees!"

There are very many good books about Belovezhskaya Pushcha. But this bright reporter work will not be lost among the others. The authors, journalists Stepan Gribenchuk and Anatoliy Polonskiy, were the officer and soldier of the USSR inter-continental ballistic rocket army in the past.

The book is sold in post-offices, book shops and Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

December 08, 2005 Website "Charter'97" The Belovezhskaya Agreements are fourteen

The Belovezhskaya Agreements which ended the existence of the Soviet Union were signed in the residence "Viskuly" (Belovezhskaya Pushcha) fourteen years ago. President of Russia Boris Eltsin, President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk and Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Belarus Stanislaw Shushkevich signed the Agreement on December 8, 1991.

No one of parties had a final text of the agreement before to come in Belarus. At the meeting there was proposed to create a certain "Commonwealth", instead of the USSR, but no one could find any suitable juridical formulation of how to cease the existence of the Soviet Union. After all someone recollected that the only representatives of three of four countries which created the USSR in 1922 (Russia, Belarus and Ukraine) assembled in "Viskuly". The fourth was the Transcaucasian Federation which, as it is known, ceased the existence in 1936.

In the end the parties agreed upon discontinuance of the existence of the USSR and appearance of the CIS - Commonwealth of the Independent States, instead of the USSR. Two weeks later more eight presidents joined Eltsin, Kravchuk and Shushkevich in Alma-Ata and created the CIS. On December 25, 1991 Michael Gorbachev tendered his resignation from the post of the President of the USSR and a red flag of the Soviet Union was lowered from Kremlin, the website "" reminds.
