Belovezhskaya Pushcha to be ready for climate change
This should be done that to rescue a unique flora of the reserve from unexpected natural anomalies.
Scientists say that climatic changes are already common in Belarus. And because of this the water balance should artificially be adapted for each tree species in the forests of Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Hydrological posts will be created to provide control for the level of subsoil waters. This will help avoid problems connected with drying or defective growth of plants.
The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is a unique for Europe forest area. The age of some trees is more than 600 years.

The management plan for Belovezhskaya Pushcha to be ratified at the national level within one month
Minsk, October 14. The management plan for Belovezhskaya Pushcha for the next 10 years should be ratified at the national level within one month, Dmitriy Bernatskiy, deputy director on science of the National Park, informed the BelaPAN News Agency.
Let's remind the management plan is necessary for prolongation of the validity of a European Diploma granted to the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha". This Diploma is a prestigious award given for national parks and reserves to get success in the field of nature protection. Belovezhskaya Pushcha has received it in 1997 for successes in conservation of wild nature.
The Belarusian party had to submit the National Park's management plan in October of 2007 to the session of the CE Committee on Conservation of Biological and Landscape Diversity. However, it was failed to prepare the plan in that term. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted a letter to the CE Committee in which the reasons of the delay of preparation of the plan were explained. There was also affirmed that nature protection and economic activity in Belovezhskaya Pushcha meet all requirements and recommendations of the Council of Europe.
The Committee has taken the explanations of the Belarusian party into consideration and has rescheduled discussions on this issue for November of 2007, and then for spring of 2008. On March 17, the decision was accepted in Strasbourg resulting from the session of a CE experts' group on Diploma award, to prolong the CE Diploma after the management plan for the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" will be authorized at the national level.
Dmitriy Bernatskiy has said that the process to coordinate the prepared plan with the CE experts is now in progress. The experts should make sure that the document is "in compliance with the European standards and completely satisfies with its purpose". To confirm it, a draft text of the plan was sent to the CE Committee on Conservation of Biological and Landscape Diversity in the late summer and the experts made some remarks concerning the document.
"The remarks concern the design. For example, it is recommended to shift chapters, something to reduce, something to add. They have no claims to the content of the plan because we understand the situation better", Dmitriy Bernatskiy has noted. He said that the Council of Europe has also sent on mission to Belovezhskaya Pushcha the Bulgarian expert Lyudmila Dimitrova specializing in drawing up the plans and she helped to make corrections. The corrected version of the plan will again be submitted to the CE experts in the near future.

An undocumented immigrant-bicyclist
He was detained by the Brest frontier guards when an attempt to get into Poland.
To look for best opportunities and to open personal talents, a 44-year-old bum was going to the European Union countries. He has confessed that he has reached the railway station of the city of Pinsk. Then he has cycled through the city of Brest to Belovezhskaya Pushcha as far as possible from populous places.
The alarm signal at the control board of the Kamenyuki frontier post was received approximately at 5.00 p.m. The frontier guards have quickly found and have detained the infringer.
I do not know for what the man expected, chief of the information and propaganda branch of the department of ideology of the Brest frontier division Alexander Kislov is perplexed. He had no troubles to throw the collapsible bicycle through the signal wire entanglement but how to get over himself...
The major Kislov do not remember bicyclists among the infringers of the state border for his 19 year job practice. If the documents of the Russian citizen are well, he could have no problems to cross the border through the simplified passing point designed for bicyclists, including the "Pererov-Bialowieza" in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, which, by the way, is located at the next frontier post. However, because the bum had no documents at all and he attempted to cross the border in the forbidden place, he was arrested and was placed in a temporary isolator for the term before ending the investigation.
