May 24, 2010 Website "TUT.BY" The Belarusian party disagrees over the decision to postpone prolongation of a European Diploma for Belovezhskaya Pushcha

The Belarusian party disagrees over the decision made by experts of the Council of Europe in late March to postpone prolongation of a European Diploma for the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha", the deputy director general on researches of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" Vasiliy Arnolbik has declared to the BelaPAN News Agency.

European Diploma is a prestigious award which marks successes of national parks and biosphere reserves in the field of nature protection. The National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" gained it in 1997. The validity of European Diploma for the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" is temporarily suspended at present time.

In October of 2007 the Belarusian party had to present to the CE experts a management plan for the park for the nearest 10 years which is an obligatory condition of prolongation of the Diploma. However, it was failed to prepare the document to this term. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to the CE Committee on Conservation of Biological and Landscape Diversity a letter in which the reasons of the delay in preparation of the plan were explained. It was also assured that nature protection and economic activities in Belovezhskaya Pushcha are in complacence with the Diploma's requirements and recommendations.

The Committee took into account these explanations and rescheduled discussions on this issue for November of 2007, then for spring of 2008, then for March of 2009 and, at last, for March of 2010.

In late March the CE experts yet again have postponed prolongation of the CE Diploma because they are going personally to be convinced of "how the Park's management plan will be in operation". Besides, the CE experts have requested the Belarusian party for sending a complete version of the management plan translated into English. The directive part of the plan which includes nature protection activities, that's about one third of the document, was only still translated into English.

Vasiliy Arnolbik has said that the complete version of the plan is not yet sent to the CE experts.

According to him, the Belarusian party, first of all, should develop the strategy of how to negotiate with the CE experts. The representative of the administration of the National Park thinks that it should not so much "blindly follow the recommendations" as assert the own position. According to Belarusian experts, the management plan for Belovezhskaya Pushcha has all necessary for the successful nature protection activity, Vasiliy Arnolbik has noted. He has emphasized that the document was developed with participation of the experts from the National Academy of Sciences.

May 12, 2010 Website "The Second National TV-Channel (ONT)" Video: A bypass highway around Belovezhskaya Pushcha

There should be good for the environment in the National Park as maximum as possible.

A new route will cross a highway going to Belovezhskaya Pushcha in the area of the Dmitrovichi village (the Brest region) and next will bypass the National Park by ending in the area of the Svisloch district center of the Grodno region. The road will be of the 4-th category - 9 meters wide. Of course, it is not the highway between the cities of Brest and Moscow but our case is posing other problems - to enable in giving an opportunity for tourists not to get attached to the administrative center of the National Park but independently to choose the access direction and night quarters and to spend time there after visiting the Reserve.

To protect the environment, some more visit entrances, except for existing two ones, are planned to be made in the National Park. An idea regarding battery-driven vehicles on the territory of the National Park can be realized just to this time. Transition subways in places of frog migrations and an infrastructure of rest for tourists near inhabited localities will also be constructed. The existing roads will be used as maximum as possible that to save money.

Vladimir Parishko, chairman of the Committee on Architecture and Building at the Brest Regional Executive Committee, says "Many roads will undergo a change, even now existing ones - local highways. As to the sections of the national status, there are a bit more than 70 kilometers, and about the fifth part of them will be under new construction."

The common length of the bypass road which will go like a broken line-semiring from the north to the south borders of the National Park is 180 kilometers. The documentation for the first section will be ready to the mid-summer while the rest of it will be complete to the turn of the year. As a whole, the realization of the project is timed up to the end of 2011.

At present time the designers are finishing the binding of the future road line in the local areas. In some cases it is still decided what will be its route - across the villages or to make a detour to avoid them. Architects say that today is the best time for investors to take constructible surfaces for restaurants, hotels and other entertaining infrastructure.

Today the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" has a tourist complex. "Our prices are much less. We grow all agriculture produce within the own territory. Many Moscow citizens come to us. It would be desirable to see citizens of St. Petersburg visiting us as we have one culture, one language and one habit. We can serve the rest of citizens of St. Petersburg including children."

That's an interesting fact! The Belarusian authorities have officially permitted to produce moonshine as a domestic manufacture of the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha". The male population having a rest in Pushcha is pleased with the quality of the local drink.
